New York Mayor Mamdani plays pickup basketball at police gym

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has been playing late night pickup basketball games at a police gym in Queens, according to the New York Post and Politico. The New York Post reported that the games take place at the Detective Steven D. McDonald Police Academy located in College Point. [1][2]

Sources told the New York Post that the mayor has played pickup games at the site about six times since July. The gym is located nearly 10 miles away from his official residence at Gracie Mansion. He plays alongside several unidentified associates. [1]

Politico first reported on the basketball games, noting that they began shortly after the New York Knicks won a championship over the summer. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Mayor Mamdani has faced ongoing public safety questions in the city, including recent subway and park violence. [1][2][7][8]
