New Elizabeth Holmes documentary premieres at Telluride Film Festival

A new documentary about disgraced entrepreneur Elizabeth Holmes has premiered at the Telluride Film Festival in Colorado, RTE reported. The film had a surprise screening before around 600 attendees who were required to hand over their phones prior to entering the venue. [1][4]

The screening took place inside the Werner Herzog Theatre, a temporary cinema set up inside an ice rink in Telluride, according to RTE. Viewers had no advance knowledge of what film would be shown at the event, which is now generating Oscar buzz. [1]

Holmes founded the medical company Theranos in 2003 at the age of 19 after dropping out of Stanford University, as FTMQ News reported earlier. She initially incorporated the venture as Real-Time Cures using her college tuition fund as seed capital before renaming it Theranos. [3][4]

The scandal surrounding Holmes and her defunct company was previously covered in the American true crime podcast The Dropout, produced by ABC News. The podcast was followed by a two-hour television special in 2019 and a second season covering her federal criminal fraud trial in 2022. [2]
