Mothers of students involved in a deadly attack at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, have shared their experiences following the shooting. Kenda Freeman told the Daily Mail that her son, Kaylub Giamanco, called her immediately after he shot 16-year-old gunman Griffin John II dead at the school. Giamanco, a father of two, expressed remorse to his mother over the victims he could not save. [1][7]

Another mother, who survived a school shooting more than two decades ago, told CNN and the New York Post that she coached her son through the attack via text messages. Identified only as Michelle, she instructed her child to be as quiet as possible and reassured him that he and his brother would survive the incident. [2]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, the attack occurred during school picture day in Bend, a city located in Central Oregon. A 16-year-old gunman killed four people, including three children and a teacher, before being stopped. A female teacher threw her cellphone and tackled the shooter during the incident, while a seven-year-old student and a 54-year-old teacher were hospitalized in critical condition. [7][9][10]

Police and school officials previously confirmed that the teenager was a former special-needs student at Silver Rail Elementary School. Separately, TMZ reported that the mother of the gunman insisted that her son was a good boy following the shooting. [4][10]
