Mother leaves children on mountain trail in Poland

A mother abandoned her two children on a hiking trail in southern Poland on Saturday, October 17, 2026, because they were whining, Euronews reported. The woman left the boys behind to continue her hike to the summit alone. [1]

According to Euronews, the incident occurred in the Bieszczady Mountains near the point where the blue and yellow trails split above Muczne. Weather conditions on the trail were poor, with a thick fog covering the area. [1]

Euronews reported that hikers from the Rzeszow branch of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society, known as PTTK, discovered the abandoned children after hearing a piercing sob and a scream. The hikers found an eight-year-old crying boy and his bewildered fourteen-year-old brother standing by the side of the trail. [1]

The shocked group of tourists stepped in to take care of the two young boys after learning that their mother had left them behind, Euronews reported. [1]
