Marcy Kaptur wins reelection in Ohio ninth district contest

Representative Marcy Kaptur, a Democrat from Ohio, won reelection in the state's 9th Congressional District on Wednesday morning. The Washington Examiner reported that the Associated Press called the race for Kaptur at 2:53 a.m. after she defeated Republican challenger Derek Merrin. Kaptur secured 52.7% of the vote against Merrin's 47.3%, with 97% of the ballots counted. [1]

The Toledo-area contest was a rematch between Kaptur and Merrin. Kaptur is the longest-serving female member of Congress in history, while Merrin previously served as a state representative for the 42nd District of the Ohio House of Representatives. [1][12][13]
