Italian truck drivers have staged demonstrations by blocking refineries and major highways to protest against soaring diesel prices, France 24 reported on Thursday. Italian authorities have begun moving to clear the blockades to restore traffic flow across key transit networks. [1]

The Italian government has issued warnings to the demonstrating truckers, stating that those who continue to block public roads could face criminal penalties, according to France 24. [1]

Fuel price pressures have caused wider economic disruptions across Europe. As FTMQ News reported earlier, high fuel prices linked to the conflict in Iran contributed to a 4.1 per cent drop in greenhouse gas emissions in France during the first half of 2026. [4]

To address rising energy costs, France plans to lower fuel prices by 12 to 18 centimes per litre starting on 1 November by drawing from its strategic reserves, as FTMQ News reported previously. [4]
