Taoiseach Micheál Martin has stated that the Irish government is leaning towards a pause on carbon tax increases for home heating oil for the remainder of its term, RTE reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the government indicated there will be no further carbon tax hikes on home heating oil and kerosene. [1][2]
Speaking at the centenary Cairde Fáil dinner for his party, Mr Martin explained that the primary objective of the upcoming Budget is easing cost-of-living pressures on families and households, according to RTE. RTE reported that a similar pause on carbon tax is also being considered for gas. [1][2]
Mr Martin promised that a significant childcare package will be included in the Budget, although it remains one of the issues that must still be finalised, RTE reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, a Christmas bonus payment has already been confirmed for people receiving social welfare payments. [1][2]
The Taoiseach stopped short of ruling out the return of energy credits in the upcoming Budget, RTE and FTMQ News both reported. [1][2]
