Idaho voters rejected a citizen-led ballot initiative that would have rolled back the state's near-total prohibition on abortion, the Washington Examiner reported. Proposition 1, known as the Reproductive Freedom and Privacy Act, failed by a margin of 56% to 44% with 95% of the vote counted. [1]

According to the Washington Examiner, the Associated Press called the race at 2:35 a.m. on Wednesday. Idaho Governor Brad Little, a Republican, stated that Proposition 1 goes too far for the state, which maintains one of the strictest abortion restrictions in the United States. [1]

The rejection keeps in place one of the most restrictive abortion legal frameworks in the country. Idaho's abortion prohibition has previously been at the center of high-profile legal and political debates over reproductive rights. [1]

The vote follows similar ballot measures across the country concerning reproductive rights. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Missouri voters also recently defeated a ballot measure, rejecting Amendment 3 by a margin of 55.2% to 44.8%. [1][4]
