Australian athlete Joanna Wietrzyk has admitted that she put others at risk by continuing to compete after soiling herself during an endurance event, the BBC reported. In her first interview since the incident, she took full responsibility for her decision during the race. [1]

The incident occurred during a Hyrox race in Beijing in September. Wietrzyk told the BBC that her determination to win had clouded her judgement at the time. She stated that she did not really think about those around her and expressed sorrow to everyone affected. [1]

Wietrzyk spoke ahead of her planned return to the sport, according to the BBC. While acknowledging that her decision in hindsight was wrong, she noted that she did not deserve the severe backlash she subsequently received. [1]

Hyrox is a fitness racing business that organises standardised competitions. The events combine eight kilometres of running with eight different functional workout stations. [2]
