The incident began when long-time resident Dana Tormollan approached the microphone to complain about receiving political materials. According to the New York Post, Tormollan accused Mayor Rodrick of attaching political letters to her taxes on October 19 and demanded that he stop sending the materials. [1]

Mayor Rodrick responded with sarcastic remarks during the public session. The New York Post reported that the mayor told Tormollan to get a job and asked if she still lived in the basement. [1]
