The legal dispute between performer Michael Flatley and his former solicitor, Maxwell Mooney, intensified on Tuesday as both sides made submissions to the High Court, the Irish Examiner reported. Flatley's legal counsel sought to strike out certain paragraphs in an affidavit sworn by Mooney. The dispute relates to 1.4 million euros previously lodged in court until a disputed costs bill regarding the Castlehyde proceedings is resolved. [1]
Flatley is an Irish-American performer and choreographer who created and starred in Riverdance and Lord of the Dance. He is credited with incorporating new rhythms and upper body movements into traditional Irish dance. His stage shows have played to over 60 million people across 60 countries and grossed more than one billion dollars. [2][4]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, High Court President Mr Justice David Barniville previously adjourned the legal proceedings for two weeks following the death of Flatley's wife, Niamh O'Brien. FTMQ News also reported that the court directed both sides to hold discussions after Flatley requested a hearing date in his legal battle with Maxwell Mooney and Company, though the opposing side stated there was no progress on mediation.
