Green MP warns party against extremist capture after Zionism vote
Green Party MP Ellie Chowns warned the party must prevent capture by extremists after members voted to treat Zionism as a form of racism.

Green Party MP Ellie Chowns said she wants to ensure her party is not vulnerable to capture by extremists and racists, according to the Guardian. Her comments follow a controversial vote at the annual party conference to treat Zionism as a form of racism. The party is now facing significant political fallout over the policy decision. [1]
The motion passed at the party conference with just over 1,000 votes, which represents approximately 0.4 percent of Green Party members, the Guardian reported. Chowns stated that the narrow result shows that internal party processes are not working properly. The adopted policy treats Zionism, the movement for a Jewish state, like any other form of racism and supports a single Palestinian state instead of a two-state solution. [1]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, the Green Party adopted the policy treating Zionism as racism earlier in October 2026. Following the vote, Labour MPs reported the Green Party to the police over the motion. Senior Labour figures stated that their party is very unlikely to cooperate or form a coalition with the Greens in the future. Green Party leader Zack Polanski is currently contesting the Holborn and St Pancras by-election against Labour. [3]
