The former chief of the Federal Bureau of Investigation field office in Chicago, Douglas DePodesta, filed a lawsuit on November 2 against top Justice Department officials. Fox News, CBS News, and the Chicago Tribune reported that DePodesta alleges he was forced to resign after being wrongly blamed for the failed prosecution of people who protested against immigration enforcement in the city. [1][9][10][11]

Fox News and ABC7 Chicago reported that DePodesta's lawsuit accuses federal prosecutors of pushing politically motivated prosecutions against Chicago demonstrators before collecting proper evidence. DePodesta said in the lawsuit that his superiors notified him that he was being blamed for the outcome of the cases, which concerned six individuals who protested against the Trump administration's immigration crackdown. [1][8]

The Chicago Tribune and the Hanford Sentinel reported that the lawsuit targets United States officials including Kash Patel, alleging DePodesta was scapegoated over the failed Midway Blitz cases. Meanwhile, the Washington Examiner reported that federal prosecutors in Washington are opposing motions by three activists, Jac Archer, Justice Forral, and Bajun Mavalwalla, to overturn their May convictions stemming from an anti-ICE demonstration. [2][9][11]

In separate legal proceedings, CNBC reported that Judge Zia Faruqui dismissed a Department of Justice case against former FBI officials Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides. CNBC noted that the judge suggested the prosecution had been rushed ahead of the midterm elections. [6][7]
