Flanagan and Tafoya clash over state fraud in Minnesota Senate debate

Democratic Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan and Republican nominee Michele Tafoya clashed over state fraud during their Minnesota United States Senate debate on Friday. The New York Post, Fox News, KARE 11, and CBS News all reported that the candidates debated responsibility for Minnesota fraud scandals. Fox News reported that Tafoya challenged Flanagan over a nine billion dollar fraud scandal during the debate. [1][5][6][10][11]

During the debate, Tafoya asked whether Flanagan had any ownership over the fraud that occurred over the last two terms of the state administration. The New York Post reported that Flanagan responded by stating that Governor Tim Walz has been clear that the buck stops with him as the official who had oversight. Flanagan added that her own focus included leading oversight of school meals. [1]

Tafoya is an American former sports broadcaster who worked as a sideline reporter for NBC Sunday Night Football from 2011 to 2022. Flanagan is an Ojibwe activist who served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019 and has served as the 50th lieutenant governor of Minnesota since 2019. [12][13]

According to the RealClearPolitics polling aggregator cited by the New York Post, Flanagan holds a lead of 2.6 percentage points over Tafoya in the Senate race. [1]
