ESA Astronaut Sophie Adenot Completes Three Spacewalks in Fifteen Days

European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot completed three spacewalks totaling nearly 20 hours outside the International Space Station in less than 15 days.

European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot completed three extravehicular activities outside the International Space Station in under 15 days. The European Space Agency reported that she logged 19 hours and 42 minutes outside the orbital station. Adenot completed these spacewalks during her mission on the station. [1][2]

Adenot launched on her first spaceflight in February 2026 aboard the SpaceX Crew-12 mission. She traveled to the International Space Station for a long-duration mission as part of Expedition 74 and Expedition 75. During this mission, Adenot became the first French woman to conduct a spacewalk. [3]

Before her selection as an astronaut, Adenot served as a colonel in the French Air and Space Force. She worked as an engineer and helicopter pilot, becoming France's first female helicopter test pilot in 2018. The European Space Agency selected her for the European Astronaut Corps in 2022. [3]

Adenot was born on July 5, 1982, in Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire, a town in central France. She grew up with her father Hubert Adenot, a notary, and her mother Isabelle Adenot, a pharmacist. She developed an early interest in aviation and space exploration. [4]
