Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom announced that he is in contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation following death threats over his plans to attend Game 3 of the WNBA Finals in Atlanta. Fox News and the New York Post reported that Freedom shared messages and video evidence of the threats on social media. Despite the warnings, Freedom stated that he plans to attend the game between the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries. [1][3]
Fox News reported that Freedom is arranging private security in addition to working with law enforcement. The threats included warnings that he would be targeted like activist Charlie Kirk. The New York Post noted that Freedom posted a message on X stating that he fears only God and planned to see fans in Atlanta, where the series between the Dream and the Valkyries is tied 1 to 1. [1][3]
The dispute follows attempts by Freedom and former NBA player Royce White to register for the WNBA. According to the Daily Mail, the Daily Wire, and washingtonexaminer.com, WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert ruled both players ineligible because they are men. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Engelbert stated in an October 16 letter to United States lawmakers that only women are eligible to compete in the league. [2][4][7][10]
Freedom previously declared for the WNBA draft in August to protest the league's gender eligibility rules, as the Daily Mail reported. Freedom was ejected from a Chicago Sky game that same month following a courtside confrontation. Freedom played eleven seasons in the NBA across six teams after being selected third overall in the 2011 draft. [1][2][9]
