United States President Donald Trump has dismissed the prospect of being impeached after his Republican Party suffered major defeats in the midterm elections. Euronews reported that Trump warned speaking to reporters in Washington that an impeachment attempt would backfire on Democrats. The Washington Examiner also reported that Trump said he was not at all worried about impeachment following the Democratic victories. [1][2]
Euronews reported that Trump stated an attempt by Democrats to impeach him would destroy the Democratic Party when they take control of Congress next year. Trump also said he was prepared to work with Democrats in Congress, while stressing that he could use his presidential veto to block legislation. [1]
The Democratic Party is a liberal political party in the United States, founded in 1828. Trump previously faced two impeachments during his first term as president, and in 2026 Trump and his allies renewed efforts to have those earlier impeachments declared expunged. As FTMQ News reported earlier, former Vice President Kamala Harris previously warned Democrats against attempting to impeach Trump if the party won control of Congress. [11][12][13]
Media outlets reported widespread Democratic gains in the midterms. The Guardian reported that a top Democrat told Trump and Republicans to lawyer up after the losses. The Irish Times and The New York Times both described the election results as a Democratic landslide that punished Trump and his party, while the Washington Times reported that a Democratic Congress is likely to target Trump defense plans.
