Displaced Gazan builds wind turbines to supply electricity to camp

A displaced Palestinian in Gaza has constructed makeshift wind turbines to provide electricity to tents in a displacement camp in al-Mawasi, near Khan Younis. Euronews reported that the initiative offers a source of power to families who have been left without electricity. [1]

The wind turbines were built by 60-year-old Kamal Al-Dabary, who is a former engineering student. Euronews reported that he constructed the devices using scooter motors, discarded water tanks, and electrical components salvaged from destroyed homes. He created the turbines because he was unable to afford solar panels, which currently cost nearly $5,000 in Gaza. [1]

The homemade turbines spin in the sea breeze above the camp tents to harness the wind for everyday essentials. According to Euronews, the energy produced by the turbines is stored in batteries to maintain a continuous supply of electricity. [1]

The UNRWA formally defined a Palestine refugee in 1949 as any person whose regular place of residence was in Mandatory Palestine between June 1946 and May 1948, and who lost their home and livelihood during the 1948 Palestine war. As FTMQ News reported earlier, military actions and blockades across the region have continued to cause widespread displacement. [7][8]
