A court has heard allegations that a female passenger was raped in her cabin aboard Cunard's newest luxury cruise liner, the Queen Anne. The Daily Mail reported that crew member Arvie Oporto, a cabin steward from the Philippines, was accused of carrying out the attack. The alleged assault occurred while the ship was travelling through international waters. [1]
According to the Daily Mail, the alleged rape took place on August 13 of last year. The victim reported the attack to staff, and the ship's captain, Inger Thorhauge, was informed of the complaint at approximately 7:30 pm that evening. Oporto was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident. [1]
The allegations involve a journey that departed from Southampton, a port city in Hampshire located roughly 80 miles southwest of London. Southampton serves as the primary cruise terminal in the United Kingdom, handling millions of passengers each year. [1][3][4]
The 1,058-foot liner was sailing on a itinerary between Scotland and Iceland when the reported incident took place. [1]
