The California theme park Great America will permanently close after the 2027 season, the New York Post reported. Park owner Six Flags confirmed that the Santa Clara attraction will shut down on Labor Day, Sept. 6, 2027. The closure will bring an end to a 51-year run for the amusement park. [1]
The theme park originally opened in 1976 as part of the Bicentennial celebration of the United States, according to the New York Post. Park manager Dave Vosejpka stated that the Santa Clara location has brought people together and created family traditions for more than five decades. Millions of visitors have passed through its gates since its opening. [1]
The decision to close the park follows a major property transaction several years earlier. The New York Post reported that former owner Cedar Fair sold the 112-acre property in June 2022 to real estate developer Prologis for $310 million. [1]
