The execution of Nidal Hasan by an army firing squad will be livestreamed, the BBC, DW, and The Guardian reported on Thursday. United States Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said in an interview with Real America's Voice that the execution will be a public event. Defence officials later confirmed that the proceedings will be broadcast live to the public, according to The Guardian and PBS NewsHour. [1][2][4][7]

Hegseth stated that Hasan will be executed by a firing squad composed of soldiers, the BBC reported. The execution is scheduled for 3 December at Fort Hood in Texas. Asked if Hasan had made any final requests or reached out to President Donald Trump, Hegseth said he did not care and added that they would see him on 3 December, according to the BBC. [1][4]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Donald Trump approved the execution by military firing squad following a recommendation from Hegseth. Hasan, a former army Medical Corps psychiatrist, killed 13 people and injured 32 others during a mass shooting at the Texas army post on 5 November 2009. He admitted to the shootings during his court-martial in August 2013. [13][15]

DW reported that the execution will be the first by the United States military since 1961. MSNBC reported that it will be the military's first execution carried out by firing squad since World War II. Pentagon officials stated that further details about the execution will be released later, DW reported. [2][5]
