The cats inhabiting the Pompeii Archaeological Park have become the subjects of a new photographic book, Euronews reported. Around 50 cats live among the ancient ruins at the site. [1]
The book is titled Cats of Pompeii and is published by Giunti Editore alongside the Pompeii Archaeological Park, according to Euronews. It features photographs donated to the park by photographer and archaeologist Silvia Vacca. [1]
The volume documents the daily lives of the animals inside the UNESCO World Heritage site, Euronews reported. The cats have previously attracted thousands of visitors and built a following on social media. [1]
Pompeii was a commercial hub in the Roman world with an estimated population of 11,000 to 20,000 people. The eruption of Mount Vesuvius buried the city under pyroclastic flows and ash in 79 AD. [6]
