Japanese video game publisher Capcom plans to use artificial intelligence to speed up its game development process, Engadget reported. The Osaka-based company detailed plans during a conference to update its internal RE Engine through a major improvement initiative called REX. Engadget reported that this overhaul is intended to turn the system into a "game engine of the AI generation." As FTMQ News reported earlier, programmer Satoshi Ishida presented the integration plans during the Capcom Open Conference RE: 2026. [1][2][4]
According to Engadget, Capcom's announcement follows a broader trend of video game companies relying on artificial intelligence to build new titles. Ishida explained during the conference that artificial intelligence will mainly serve to improve efficiency and streamline development workflows. Engadget noted that the news was first reported by GameBiz and IGN. Engadget also noted that Capcom previously stated it will not use artificial intelligence to generate content in its games. [1][4]
Established in 1983, Capcom has grown into an international enterprise with subsidiaries operating across East Asia, Europe, and North America. The company has created several commercially successful franchises, including Devil May Cry, Dead Rising, Ace Attorney, Dragon's Dogma, and Mega Man. Overall, Capcom has achieved a track record of more than 100 platinum-selling titles since its inception. [2][3]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, Capcom's gaming franchises have surpassed 300 million total unit sales worldwide. The survival horror series Resident Evil has sold more than 142 million units, while the competitive fighting series Street Fighter has reached 49 million units. In addition, the cooperative action series Monster Hunter has exceeded 90 million units sold. [3][4]
