Apple Mac Studio retains original design across four generations of silicon

Apple has launched the new Mac Studio featuring the M5 Ultra chip while retaining the same physical design first introduced in 2022.

Apple has released the fourth generation of its Mac Studio computer, incorporating the new M5 Ultra processor into the exact same physical casing used in previous models, Engadget reported. The latest desktop maintains Apple's established 7.7-inch square aluminum footprint with a height of 3.7 inches. [1]

According to Engadget, the M5 Ultra model offers significant performance improvements over earlier iterations. The new machine supports up to 512GB of memory, compared to 128GB on the first-generation M1 Ultra released in 2022. The M5 Ultra also transfers data at 1.2TB/s, representing an increase of nearly 50 percent compared to the M3 Ultra. Engadget noted that Apple skipped the M4 Ultra generation entirely. [1]

The Mac Studio is a small-form-factor workstation computer designed and marketed by Apple as its professional desktop system, positioning it above the consumer iMac and Mac Mini models. In addition to the M5 Ultra, the system can be configured with the M5 Max system on a chip. [5]
