Department of Homeland Security agents are reportedly compiling dossiers on individuals accused of observing or protesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, according to Engadget and Wired. The information is being stored in a surveillance database developed by Palantir called Investigative Case Management. [1][2][3][4]
Unsealed court documents from a class action lawsuit reveal that DHS files contain sensitive information such as personal photos and license plate numbers, Engadget reported. An attorney representing the protesters stated that the surveillance practices infringe on First Amendment rights. [1]
The filing originates from a partially unsealed court record regarding a January ICE operation conducted in Maine, Engadget and Wired noted. Reports from inkl further state that agents tagged protest observers as a threat to law enforcement within the Palantir database. [1][2][6]
Palantir Technologies Incorporated is an American software company founded in 2003 that specializes in data integration and analytics. The publicly traded firm is headquartered in Miami, Florida. [7]
