Brazilian Federal Police contacted Argentine authorities on Tuesday to investigate whether Senator Flavio Bolsonaro fled Brazil through an Argentine airport, Euronews reported. Sources from the federal police quoted by the Metropole newspaper stated that Bolsonaro has not passed through any official Brazilian border checkpoint in recent hours. However, officials noted that it remains possible to cross the border without being subjected to standard checks. [1]

Multiple news outlets including Bloomberg, the Buenos Aires Times, and the Hindustan Times reported that authorities in Argentina denied that Bolsonaro has entered their country. Indiatimes and Breakingthenews.net also reported that Argentine officials denied reports of his escape. [4][6][8][9][10]

In a social media video published on Monday, Bolsonaro said he was banned from leaving the country and had been served a notice to surrender his passports, according to Euronews. As FTMQ News reported earlier, a Brazilian Supreme Court justice issued the travel ban and passport order after Bolsonaro lost the election to incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. Thejournal.ie reported that the travel restriction followed comments from Bolsonaro's brother suggesting he should leave Brazil if he lost. [1][5][14]

The travel restrictions follow Sunday's presidential election, where Lula won a historic fourth term by defeating the far-right candidate, as reported by The Guardian. The election outcome also triggered a crash in Brazilian financial markets, according to the Buenos Aires Herald. [2][3]

Flavio Bolsonaro is a Brazilian lawyer and politician who has served as a senator for Rio de Janeiro since 2019 and is a son of former president Jair Bolsonaro, according to Wikipedia. Indiatimes reported that the senator is also facing a money laundering investigation. [4][12]
