United States Senator Bernie Sanders said on Sunday that alleged Democratic conduct in the Alaska Senate race ballot controversy was dumb but not illegal. The Washington Examiner, The Hill, and Newsmax all reported his comments from an interview on Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan. According to the Washington Examiner, Sanders stated that attempts by any political party to confuse voters are not a good thing to do. [1][3][4][5]

The comments follow allegations concerning the Senate race between Democratic candidate Mary Peltola and Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the campaign of Mary Peltola was accused of recruiting a second candidate named Dan Sullivan to confuse voters. The governor of Alaska subsequently ordered an official investigation into the Democratic campaign, and the Department of Justice requested expedited discovery in its lawsuit. [1][9][10]

Sanders also commented on California Proposition 40 during a separate interview, according to the New York Post. He criticized deep pocketed donors for spending money to protect their fortunes, arguing that billionaire spending is causing support for the proposed billionaire tax to drop in state polling. [2]

Sanders is an independent politician from Vermont who has served as the senior United States senator from the state since 2007. He is the longest serving independent in United States congressional history and caucuses with Senate Democrats. [3][6][8]
