Airbnb enforced new global rules banning hosts from assigning major chores

Airbnb hosts must stop asking guests to wash dishes or take out bins under new rules coming into force in November. As FTMQ News reported earlier, the company will prohibit hosts globally from requiring major household chores, such as stripping beds or washing dishes, starting on November 20. [1][2][3]

The BBC reported that the changes have brought relief to guests who faced lengthy checkout lists alongside high cleaning fees. One guest paid a 250 dollar cleaning fee for a Florida rental but was still instructed by the host to wash and fold towels, clean the bedding and kitchen, and sweep and mop the floors. [1]

The guest added that the host warned the family their behaviour needed to improve or they could be told to leave after chairs blocked bins. She stated that the rules covered everything and made the stay unrelaxing. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, the global policy decision follows years of customer complaints regarding chore lists on top of high cleaning fees. Airbnb achieved 12.24 billion dollars in full-year revenue for 2025. [2][3]
