A Navy veteran identified as Amy received an automated text notification that the Virginia parole board plans to review the case of her attacker for possible release, Fox News reported. The alert arrived only months after the suspect received a 24-year prison sentence. [1]

The underlying cold case stems from a 1992 Valentine's Day rape in Virginia, according to Fox News. Investigators solved the 33-year-old case last year after DNA evidence linked the crime to a convicted rapist named Anthony Favors, who is 57 years old. [1]

Fox News reported that Favors originally faced six indictments, including burglary and abduction. In September 2025, he accepted a plea deal for two counts of rape, after which Norfolk Judge Everett A. Martin Jr. ordered two consecutive 12-year prison sentences. [1]

The victim expressed shock after learning through the automated VINE text system that the parole board might review the case so soon after the sentencing ruling, according to Fox News. [1]
