The Nasdaq Composite fell 5.5 percent on Thursday, as reported by UPI, The Wall Street Journal, and Around Prague. UPI and Around Prague both reported that the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by roughly 1,833 points, or 3.4 percent, while UPI added that the S&P 500 lost about 4.4 percent. The drop erased market gains made on Wednesday following the United States midterm elections. [1][2][3]

UPI reported that the drop marked the worst single day for the Nasdaq Composite since April 2025. Shares in data centers and microchip manufacturing companies declined for a second straight day, according to UPI. BigGo Finance similarly reported tumbling stock prices for technology companies Nvidia and AMD. [1][5]

The sell-off followed election results in which Democrats won control of both chambers of the United States Congress, as UPI and UA.NEWS reported. UPI, BigGo Finance, and 조선일보 all reported that investor concerns centered on the possibility of more stringent government regulations being imposed on the artificial intelligence industry. [1][4][5][6]

The Nasdaq Composite Index serves as a broad market benchmark that tracks domestic and international common stocks listed on the Nasdaq exchange, which lists over 3,000 companies. As FTMQ News reported earlier, technology stocks had previously plunged following Democratic midterm victories, erasing an estimated 2.5 trillion dollars in market capitalisation. [8][9]
