Authorities in Los Angeles carried out a major crackdown on a homeless encampment beneath a freeway this week, resulting in the arrest of more than 25 people. The New York Post reported that officials rescued dogs, cats, and chickens during the operation. The action took place along San Fernando Road near the border of Sun Valley and Arleta. [1]
The law enforcement operation followed a weeklong effort by Joey Tuccio, an animal advocate who publicly accused City Hall of ignoring illegal breeding and animal abuse at the site. According to the New York Post, Tuccio recorded video showing a woman selling puppies for between $45 and $100 from a wooden box. The reported activity occurred despite current Los Angeles restrictions regarding public animal sales and dog breeding. [1]
Incidents involving California encampments have previously drawn emergency responses. As FTMQ News reported earlier, firefighters rescued two women and four dogs from a Santa Ana River encampment in San Bernardino during rising floodwaters. [4]
