The Trump administration has approved wind power projects in Maine and South Dakota in an effort to reduce resistance among Senate Democrats to a bipartisan permitting reform bill, the Washington Examiner reported. A White House official confirmed on Thursday morning that the Department of War cleared its first tranche of wind projects that were still under review. [1]

The administration hopes the approvals will help advance the permitting bill through the Senate. White House officials consider the legislation essential to President Donald Trump's plans for energy and artificial intelligence. [1]

Trump took office as the 47th president of the United States on January 20, 2025, after winning the 2024 election. The Republican Party holds majorities in both the Senate and the House of Representatives. [13]

The move comes as the administration faces broader political friction with Democratic leadership. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries recently filed a lawsuit challenging federal efforts to compel states to hand over voter rolls ahead of the midterm elections.
