At least four construction workers were killed and a fifth was injured when a tornado struck a building site in Antalya, southern Turkey, late on Monday. Euronews reported that two workers died at the scene and two others died in hospital. [1]
The violent winds hurled two accommodation containers into the air and brought down a tower crane. According to Euronews, the governor's office confirmed that the falling crane caused no casualties. Governor Hulusi Şahin described the storm in the Kepez district as an exceptionally localised phenomenon. [1]
Severe weather also affected other parts of the country, with heavy rain flooding roads in Istanbul, Euronews reported. The city previously suffered severe weather on 15 October, when record rainfall caused deadly flash floods, as FTMQ News reported earlier. [1][7]
Tornadoes develop occasionally in southern Canada during summer and occur with some regularity across Europe, Asia, and Australia. Globally, severe weather events including strong thunderstorms, winds, and hail frequently accompany tornadic activity. [3]
