Cabinet ministers are in a standoff with UK Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood after she failed to share key information regarding the impact of proposed migration changes, the Guardian reported. Ministerial colleagues fear that her revisions to the asylum system will lead to an increase in homelessness. [1]

According to the Guardian, Mahmood has repeatedly refused to disclose how much she expects homelessness numbers to grow. Cabinet colleagues have also expressed concerns about potential staff shortages in the care sector as a result of the policies. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Mahmood previously outlined plans to restrict immigration rules. That report noted that more than 200,000 migrants had received permanent settlement in the United Kingdom since restrictions were first proposed last year, with at least 5,000 legal residents gaining settlement status each week. [4]

Home Office ministers are scheduled to meet with officials from other government departments over the coming days to try to reach a compromise, the Guardian reported. [1]
