Three young Gazans holding scholarships at Irish universities have been granted leave to enter Ireland following successful appeals against visa refusals, as the Irish Examiner reported. Decisions on the appeals were delivered on October 9 after an agreement was reached between Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan and lawyers representing the students. [1]
The High Court had been scheduled to hear judicial review challenges regarding the visa refusals, according to the Irish Examiner. As FTMQ News reported earlier, four Palestinian students from Gaza were initially denied visas despite securing fully funded places at Irish institutions, prompting academics to call for government intervention. One of the successful appellants is a scholarship student bound for University College Cork, according to the Irish Examiner. Solicitor Susan Doyle, who represented the student, noted that dozens of other students are currently awaiting appeal decisions. [1]
