Tampa Bay Rays beat New York Yankees in ALDS Game 1

The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the New York Yankees 1-0 in Game 1 of the American League Division Series. Drew Rasmussen pitched a dominant game for Tampa Bay and nearly completed a no-hitter, according to Yahoo Sports, ESPN, and ABC7 Eyewitness News. New York catcher Austin Wells broke up the no-hit bid with a hit, according to ESPN and The New York Times. CBS Sports reported that Wells then made a costly baserunning mistake when he was thrown out attempting to turn the hit into a triple. [2][3][7]

The Yankees were forced to play without three-time Most Valuable Player Aaron Judge. CBS Sports reported that Judge was excluded from the ALDS roster because he is recovering from a calf injury sustained in September. [4]

Rasmussen plays as a professional pitcher for Tampa Bay after starting his career with the Milwaukee Brewers. He was selected to his first two Major League Baseball All-Star games in 2025 and 2026. [12]
