Investigators probing a high-speed train crash in Castilla-La Mancha are focusing on an inexplicable decision by a central control centre in Madrid rather than the actions of the train drivers, Euronews reported. Regional authorities reported that at least 68 people have died and 58 people are receiving treatment in hospital following the accident. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stated that the entire country is in mourning and expressed solidarity with the victims and their families. [1]
Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente described an order given by the central control centre as inexplicable, Euronews reported. The directive allowed the high-speed train operated by Renfe to resume normal running shortly before the crash occurred. [1]
The crash occurred in Toledo province south of Madrid, as FTMQ News reported earlier. The collision between two high-speed trains disrupted regional transport infrastructure, leading officials to suspend rail service between Madrid, Ciudad Real, Seville, and Andalusia. [5]
