Pro-Russian social media accounts falsely claimed that a Russian oil tanker was transporting thousands of barrels of diesel to the United States, France 24 reported. The claims followed an announcement by United States President Donald Trump on Friday, October 9, regarding a trade agreement signed with Russian President Vladimir Putin to import Russian diesel. [1]

Under the agreement, Russia is scheduled to immediately supply over 300,000 tons of diesel fuel to American and global markets, according to France 24. An additional 500,000 tons are planned for delivery during November, with 1,000,000 tons to follow immediately afterward. [1]

The fuel agreement has drawn criticism internationally and domestically, as DW.com reported on its potential impact on Ukraine. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the trade deal, while a bipartisan group of six United States senators urged President Trump to drop the plan to permit Russian fuel imports. The United States is a federal republic located primarily in North America that consists of 50 states, a federal capital district, and several island territories. Founded in 1776, the nation operates under the 1787 Constitution and possesses the largest nominal gross domestic product in the world. [8][9]
