Gardaí have arrested a man in his 20s as part of the investigation into a fatal house fire in County Waterford. The Irish Examiner and Cork Beo reported that he is the sixth person to be arrested in connection with the suspected arson attack. The fire killed Philip and Kim English, along with their two sons, 12 year old Callum and nine year old Jayden. [1][2]
The Irish Examiner reported that the suspect is being held as officers continue investigating the fire at a house in Birchwood, Waterford. Earlier in the week, a man and a woman were charged in connection with the attack and remanded in custody. Gardaí stated that they expect to carry out further searches as the ongoing probe continues. [1]
As FTMQ News reported earlier, a murder investigation was launched following the fire, which gardaí suspect may be linked to a drug debt owed by an acquaintance of the family. Two other children survived the fire, with at least one remaining in critical condition in hospital. Cian Stacey and Jessica Dalton were previously charged with criminal damage and assault, and a funeral for the four victims was held at the Sacred Heart Church Parish Centre in Waterford. [5][6]
