Newly elected Democratic Senator Adam Hamilton of Kansas stated on Sunday that Congress should prioritize lowering living costs rather than spending two years investigating members of the Donald Trump administration. NBC News reported that Hamilton said he would be deeply disappointed by prolonged investigations, adding that people living paycheck to paycheck need immediate help with the cost of living. [1][10]

Hamilton won his seat after flipping deep red Kansas for the Democratic Party, as NBC News reported. As FTMQ News reported earlier, a Democrat had not won a United States Senate seat in Kansas since the Great Depression. [1][10][13]

The senator elect urged the incoming Congress to focus on clawing back tariffs imposed by Trump and ending the war with Iran, according to NBC News. CNBC also reported that Representative Hakeem Jeffries, who is likely to become the next House speaker, has made ending Trump's tariffs a top priority for congressional Democrats. [1][2]

Hamilton's comments come as congressional Democrats prepare broad oversight plans. The Washington Examiner reported that Democratic members pledged on Saturday to launch sweeping investigations targeting Trump and his allies, including using the courts to enforce subpoenas. CNBC also reported that Democrats plan to bombard the administration with inquiries once sworn in. [2][3]

Trump has publicly threatened action against Democratic oversight plans. The Seattle Times reported that Trump asked the Department of Justice to investigate Democrats who are calling for investigations and cabinet impeachments. Meanwhile, Fox News reported that Trump expressed optimism about working with Democrats on immigration and economic issues. [6][7]
