The United States Senate election results for Mississippi and Alaska remain unresolved one day after Election Day, according to reports by UPI, Politico, and the Washington Examiner. While election officials have declared winners for most Senate contests across the country, both outlets report that determining the final outcomes in Mississippi and Alaska could take days or weeks. [1][2][3]

In Mississippi, Republican incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith and Democratic challenger Scott Colom are locked in a tight race, according to UPI. With 95 percent of the results counted by late Wednesday afternoon, both candidates were tied at 48.9 percent of the vote. UPI and CNN reported that CNN data showed Colom leading by 65 votes at 4:45 p.m., with neither candidate claiming victory as officials prepare to count remaining mail-in ballots. [1][4]

In Alaska, the Senate race between Republican incumbent Dan Sullivan and Democratic challenger Mary Peltola remains unresolved as ballot counting continues, CBS News and NBC News reported. The state relies on ranked-choice voting to determine the winner of the contest. [5][14]

The close contests follow a competitive midterm election cycle. As FTMQ News reported earlier, late-deciding voters in key Senate battleground races favored Republicans heading into Election Day, despite polling disparities between registered Democratic and Republican respondents. [17][18]
