Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine overnight killed at least six people, according to reports from rte.ie, Al Jazeera, and the South China Morning Post. Euronews reported that three of those deaths occurred in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv, where 22 people were also injured. The attacks damaged residential buildings and energy infrastructure, leaving more than 600,000 residents without electricity. [1][2][4][5]

Euronews detailed that an attack on a nine-storey residential building in the Desnianskyi district of Kyiv killed two people and injured 21 others, including a child. Firefighters managed a blaze covering 400 square metres, while emergency workers rescued 16 residents from the damaged structure. Sixteen of the injured were taken to hospital, with four listed in serious condition. [1]

POLITICO.eu, Al Jazeera, and France 24 reported that Ukrainian authorities received no advance warning from Western allies regarding Russian ballistic missile strikes on the capital. France 24 added that a missile targeted a Kyiv power plant on Tuesday, causing casualties and hitting critical energy infrastructure. [3][6][7]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously accused Russia of violating an energy ceasefire by striking a power plant, following an agreement announced by United States President Donald Trump to temporarily lift sanctions on American imports of Russian diesel. Following the recent attacks, rte.ie reported that British Prime Minister Andy Burnham will welcome Volodymyr Zelensky to Downing Street in a show of political support. [2][8][9]
