At least two people were killed in Kyiv on Wednesday after Russian forces launched a massive missile strike across Ukraine, Al Jazeera reported. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the fatalities occurred in the Darnytskyi neighbourhood due to a fire sparked by the overnight attack, while two other individuals were rescued by emergency services. [1]

Russia's Ministry of Defence confirmed that its forces executed a massive strike against targets in Kyiv and other regions, including port facilities, according to Al Jazeera. As FTMQ News reported earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had previously described the intense Russian strikes hitting the Ukrainian capital, which has a population of about 2,950,000 residents. [1][12][16]

The strikes on Kyiv follow a large-scale Ukrainian operation on Tuesday. Russia's Defense Ministry stated that its air defenses intercepted nearly 900 Ukrainian drones overnight over several regions, the occupied Crimean Peninsula, and the Sea of Azov, according to France 24 and the New York Post. Unconfirmed reports indicated that two people died and a major fuel depot in the Moscow region caught fire. [2][7]

Meanwhile, Ukraine's top sanctions official stated that Russia imported fuel from South Korean ports to alleviate a domestic fuel crisis caused by Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil refineries, ABC News Australia and Reuters reported. More than 176,000 tonnes of petroleum products were shipped from South Korea to Russia during July and August. [4][6]
