Ian Nolan, the new chief executive of the Rugby Football League, has backed an appeal for the government to support a 30 million pound community funding plan, BBC News reported. Former England international Jon Wilkin made the request during a Monday appearance on BBC Radio 5 Live. BBC News and related coverage from the BBC both reported on the endorsement. [1][2]

According to BBC News, Wilkin appealed directly to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy to fund the five-year social impact project. Wilkin noted that both Burnham and Nandy are rugby league fans. He urged the ministers to follow the precedent set by Australia, where the government committed 250 million Australian dollars, or 130 million pounds, to the sport in July. [1]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Andy Burnham serves as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. His administration has recently faced high-profile policy decisions, including debates regarding major transport and economic growth infrastructure projects. [5][6]
