A 24-year-old Royal Navy sailor appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on Thursday after being charged with offences under the UK's National Security Act, Euronews, BBC News, and The Guardian reported. Counter Terrorism Policing London arrested Teddy Young at his home in Bedfordshire on Tuesday, according to the Daily Mail and The Guardian. [1][2][3][5]

Euronews and BBC News reported that Young served as a junior warfare intelligence rating holding high-level security clearance and intelligence-system access. Metropolitan Police said the allegations involve obtaining, retaining, and preparing to share protected defense and intelligence material between November 2024 and May 2025, Euronews reported. The BBC added that the charges include translating a message into Russian and preparing to disclose sensitive information. [1][2]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Young was charged following an investigation into allegations of preparing to disclose protected information to benefit a foreign power. The Royal Navy is the senior service of the United Kingdom's armed forces and is responsible for defending the country and maintaining maritime security. [13][15][17]

The Daily Mail reported that Young was held in custody in London following his arrest on Tuesday prior to his court appearance on Thursday afternoon. [1][5]
