Ron DeSantis denies report of preparing 2028 presidential bid

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has denied a report that he is preparing a presidential bid for 2028, according to Fox News, the Sun Sentinel, and the Hindustan Times. DeSantis posted on X that The Washington Post fabricated claims about his political plans out of whole cloth, Fox News reported. [1][6][7]

The Washington Post had reported that DeSantis was preparing a campaign after citing three people who were briefed on his plans, Fox News and the Sun Sentinel reported. Fox News added that DeSantis said he has not reached out to anybody about running for office and described the article as an attempt to gather clicks using anonymous sources. [1][6]

The controversy follows recent midterm elections that opened up discussions around the 2028 presidential race, according to the Washington Examiner and The Hill. The Washington Examiner noted that Republican figures such as DeSantis, JD Vance, Ted Cruz, and Marco Rubio are being discussed as potential presidential candidates. [3][4]

DeSantis previously served in the United States House of Representatives for Florida's 6th congressional district from 2013 to 2018. Before his political career, he graduated from Yale University and Harvard Law School, and he served as an officer in the United States Navy Judge Advocate General's Corps. [11]
