House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer declined to back Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth as an upcoming impeachment vote looms. The Washington Examiner reported that Comer said there are a lot of questions about Hegseth. Representative Thomas Massie plans to reintroduce articles of impeachment against Hegseth next week, Fox News reported. [1][4][11]

The Washington Examiner and Fox News both report that the House must vote on the impeachment articles next week. Massie previously tried to impeach Hegseth before the midterm elections, but the effort was derailed when the House adjourned early in September. Fox News reported that House Speaker Mike Johnson condemned Massie's earlier effort. [1][4]

Massie's renewal of the effort follows recent midterm election losses for Republicans. The Washington Examiner reported that voter frustrations over high prices stemming from a prolonged war in Iran led to significant Republican losses in the elections. The New York Post reported that the Associated Press had called 254 House races for Democrats and 162 for Republicans, with 19 seats remaining undecided. [1][2]

As FTMQ News reported earlier, Democratic majorities in Congress plan to launch oversight investigations into the Department of Defense following their election victories. CNBC reported that Representative Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, stated that Democrats plan to launch probes into President Donald Trump, his family, and his administration when they take control of the House in January.
