Romania probes fresh drone attack on Black Sea tanker

Romanian authorities are probing a possible fresh drone attack on a tanker off the Black Sea coast, France 24 reported on Wednesday. Suspected Russian drones have struck several vessels off Romania and neighbouring Bulgaria since last week, according to the same outlet. [1][7]

In response to aerial targets near the border with Ukraine, Romania scrambled aircraft, Ukrainian National News reported. UA News specified that the deployment included two F-16 fighter jets and a helicopter. Latest News from Azerbaijan and Türkiye Today also confirmed that Romania launched F-16 jets after drones were spotted near its border. [2][3][5][6]

The Business Standard reported that Romania announced two people died following a fire on a ship, an incident that Ukraine blamed on Russian drones. As FTMQ News reported earlier, a Turkish-owned vessel carrying corn sank in the Black Sea after a strike by two Russian drones left two crew members dead. [4][14]

The latest incidents represent an ongoing spillover from the war in Ukraine into the Black Sea region, France 24 reported. British finance minister John Healey called on other countries to tighten sanctions, according to the same outlet. [1][7]
