American filmmaker Robert Eggers attended the Lumière Film Festival in Lyon, France, as a guest of honour, Euronews reported. The director spoke to the audience during a masterclass about the dark cinematic worlds he has created throughout his career. [1]

The event featured discussions about his upcoming period gothic folk horror film titled Werwulf, Euronews reported. The new movie is set in 14th-century England and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Willem Dafoe, and Lily-Rose Depp, who all previously worked on his film Nosferatu. [1][3]

Eggers wrote and directed the films The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman, and Nosferatu. His films are set before the 20th century and are known for historical authenticity while blending gothic horror, folklore, and mythology. Eggers co-wrote the script for Werwulf alongside Sjón. [2][3]

Raised in New Hampshire, Eggers developed an early interest in folklore, medieval art, and macabre tales. He worked as a production designer for film, television, theater, and dance in his twenties before transitioning into writing and directing feature films. [5]
