Rick Stockstill wins Florida State debut to end road losing streak

Florida State defeated Boston College 31-24 on Saturday, giving interim head coach Rick Stockstill a victory in his head coaching debut with the program. Fox News, ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Yahoo Sports, and the Bradenton Herald all reported on the victory, which snapped a long road losing streak for the Seminoles. [1][2][3][4][5]

Amari Thomas scored two rushing touchdowns in the game, including an 11-yard run with 2:29 remaining in the fourth quarter. His final score allowed Florida State to rally from a 17-7 deficit and secure the victory, Fox News reported. Florida State quarterback Ashton Daniels completed 15 of 26 passes for 178 yards and one interception. [1]

The victory ended a road losing streak that stretched back three years, according to ESPN. Fox News reported that Florida State had not won a game away from Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee since November 25, 2023. [1][2][8]

Rick Stockstill was named interim head coach following the firing of Mike Norvell on November 1, 2026. Stockstill played quarterback at Florida State under coach Bobby Bowden from 1977 to 1981 and previously served as the head coach at Middle Tennessee from 2006 to 2023. [7][8]
